Jia Jia Yong is the Community Archivist at the City of Edmonton Archives. She is dedicated to advocating for and supporting the preservation of the documentary heritage of communities underrepresented in the archives. Through various initiatives such as conversations, tours, events, and special projects, Jia Jia actively engages with the community members to promote cultural safety and ensure diverse stories are preserved and shared.
The "Researching Archives" workshop led by the City of Edmonton Archives introduced participants to archives as a resource for future projects and taught approaches to archival research. Topics included how to identify relevant archival repositories, tools and approaches to archival research, and how to access archives. Participants also familiarized themselves with the City of Edmonton Archives, learning about the different types of records available in the collection. The workshop ended with a behind-the-scenes tour of the City of Edmonton Archives that allowed participants to see firsthand how archives preserve and provide access to records.
